Karl Marx - Religion is... by Visual-Enhancement Karl Marx - Religion is... by Visual-Enhancement
Karl Marx, a great fellow indeed.

“Religion is the sigh of the oppressed creature,
the heart of a heartless world,
and the soul of soulless conditions.
It is the opium of the people.”
-Karl Marx

Your communism oppressed more people in a century than religion in a millenium, and when religion oppression stopped the communist oppression and genocide began.

Albert Einstein:
"Your question [about God] is the most difficult in the world. It is not a question I can answer simply with yes or no. I am not an Atheist."

"science without religion is lame, religion without science is blind."

""Unquestionably! No one can read the Gospels without feeling the actual presence of Jesus. His personality pulsates in every word. No myth is filled with such life."

"Only the Church stood squarely across the path of Hitler's campaign for suppressing truth. I never had any special interest in the Church before, but now I feel a great affection and admiration because the Church alone has had the courage and persistence to stand for intellectual truth and moral freedom. I am forced thus to confess that what I once despised I now praise unreservedly."

"a person who is religiously enlightened appears to me to be one who has, to the best of his ability, liberated himself from the fetters of his selfish desires and is preoccupied with thoughts, feelings and aspirations to which he clings because of their super-personal value. It seems to me that what is important is the force of this superpersonal content ... regardless of whether any attempt is made to unite this content with a Divine Being, for otherwise it would not be possible to count Buddha and Spinoza as religious personalities. Accordingly a religious person is devout in the sense that he has no doubt of the significance of those super-personal objects and goals which neither require nor are capable of rational foundation ... In this sense religion is the age-old endeavor of mankind to become clearly and completely conscious of these values and goals and constantly to strengthen and extend their effect. If one conceives of religion and science according to these definitions then a conflict between them appears impossible. For science can only ascertain what is, but not what should be"

This is a very good quote from Karl Marx.

Of course, the biggest myth is that Karl Marx was anti-theist and wanted religion abolished. Was he an atheist? Yes, like a lot of Communist and Socialist leaders.

It's important that religion/atheism/agnosticism be kept for our own private lives (I'm an atheist and I do NOT believe in any god whatsoever but I have better things to worry about than what other people worship), but we should be deciding what other people believe.

With all due respect for your standpoint, how do you know that? What are the merits you have which allow you to make such a statement? I'm not attacking you, I'm just curious. Are you religious yourself - maybe you know this from personal experience? And finally, as a historian, I'd like to look into your sources.
I have converted to another religion myself just recently, which is why I take this so personally.

You are right there.... But also to all others, who believe. And this is not a situation, where we should be at each other's throats in an anonymous online battle of words. Either you believe or you don't. I happen to believe. But faith is faith - either you have it or you don't.

Not trying to troll or anything, but have you read the communist manifesto or just history book?

Lenin, Stalin, Mao, Jong-Il etc etc etc were corrupt socialist dictators and not pure communist leaders. Those dictators ran their empires in the name of communism but ran it under fascist/socialist etc rule.

Like how Hitler is blamed for the death of near 20 mil. people, when in reality he was an extremely lazy person and it really his henchmen that ran Nazi Germany. E.g. Goering signed the papers authorizing the concentration camps being built. Hitler was a figurehead, and contributed nothing but his image and ideas. The communist ideology/manifesto has contributed the hammer and sickle and it's name; nothing else.

Communism in past has been used as an excuse for mass-murder, but that is not what Marx and Engels intended. Like religion wasn't intended to used as an excuse for mass-murder. but it has.

Sorry for the long post :/ Just trying to clear things up... That sounded bad, but I can't word it any other way. Again, sorry if I sounded harsh or troll-y or 'female-dog'-like in any way.

On an unrelated topic, love this wallpaper :D Great use of colour and image :)

Totally agree! I find it remarkable how people can blame a book or an idea for causing havoc and destruction. Isn't it entirely up to people not to do that, at the end of the day?

Okay the problem I have with this statement is that it perpetuates the Good vs. Evil mentality when it comes to leaders.

None of the leaders you've listed are as bad as people say they are. We put too much faith in the mainstream liberal media. And I say "liberal" as in the neo-liberal apologist kind of liberal.

I totally agree with you, actually. They were indeed poor communists, but that is what communism - and indeed an totalitarian ideology - allows. I just fear communism the most, because it had and still has such a hold on many countries.

And thank you, I'm glad you like it :)

CIA prisons are the results of one nation's lust for power, nothing else. That has nothing to do with ideology. What Lenin and Stalin did were in varying degrees an attempt to create a new society, killing those who refused to conform. That is what I find awful and inhumane. Sure, you might argue that they were allowed to do so by a power hungry system of opression, and you would be correct in doing so, but that system was based on the idevelopment and progession of an ideology - communism. That is where CIA prisons differ from Gulag. America has a role which, historically speaking, is unprecendented when viewed from a cultural/historical angle, and takes liberties in the international arena that no single nation should be allowed to. But that has nothing to do with the wrongs and the criminal deeds commited in the name of communism. Crimes and atrocities have been commited in the name of all ideologies, but in this case, communism is the order of the day. Other ideologies are not being dealt with.

To assume that Communism's goal is control is a rather popular yet incorrect argument from Anti-Communists and Liberals.

What you're doing is ignoring the achievements they made and only focusing on the bad parts.

Stalin wasn't as bad as people say he was. In fact, pretty much save not only his own country but the world from being even a worse shithole than it already is with the Nazis running around.

I could say the same for Mao.

As far as Stalin goes, I could prove you wrong - but that would take a 490 page book, which I am currently reading. And that's all I have to say - I am a historian, so I know what I'm talking about.

Being a historian doesn't mean you can't be wrong, because there's a term we like to call "bias," not that it's something to be ashamed of since bias is a natural human trait. Also, I didn't say Stalin didn't do anything wrong and that "he was the best leader ever," I merely said, he wasn't as bad as people say he was.
